Ashveil Chronicles

Ashveil Chronicles surprised me with how much it respects your time. It's a proper turn-based RPG with a party you build and skill trees to fuss over, but battles are short and you can pause anywhere. The writing is the real draw — the kingdom of Ashveil is falling apart, and most quests force a small moral choice that changes who trusts you later.

Combat uses an elemental rock-paper-scissors system that sounds basic but opens up once enemies start combining types. I spent a happy hour rebuilding my team to counter a boss that kept wrecking me, and beating it felt earned. Gear drops are generous without being overwhelming.

The only rough edge is the early pacing — the first two chapters are a slow burn. Push through them and the story tightens up considerably.
